A Profile of Taoyuan County Today
Taoyuan County is just next to Taipei Metropolitan and serves as a gateway for the transportation artery systems between Taipei, the capital city, and the rest of major cities and areas in Taiwan. Administratively it consists of 4 cities, 2 township and 7 hsiangs
(rural municipalities). Further with a population of 1,810,000 it boasts the second largest county in Taiwan and features the hub of light industrial plants and commercial establishments. In transportation it plays a critical role for having the most well developed transportation systems comprised of: CKS Taipei International Airport giving access to at least 10,000 arrival passengers per day, National Freeways I and lll, Transisland high
way, County highway web and Trans-island railway; in research and education, Taoyuan county is the home to the nations top research institute, Chung Shan Institute of Science, and more than 10 universities and colleges such as National Central Univ., Chung Yuan Christian Univ., Yuan Ze Univ., Police Univ. etc. In addition, army headquarters and 53 barracks are located in Taoyuan County. For recreation, this county provides five major resorts such as Shih Men (Stone Gate) Dam, Window on China (Miniature Land), etc, and 11 county clubs and golf courses such as Chang Gung Country Club, Westin Tashee Country Club, etc. Besides that, there are seven industrial parks in this county, including Chung Li lndustrial Park, Ping Chen Industrial Park and Youth Industrial Park.
